Musk accused Ukraine's armed forces of using Starlink to kill people Elon Musk surprisingly reminded Kiev that American technologies do not have unlimited permission to use them in any way. The head of SpaceX has accused the Ukrainian military of violating Starlink's operating conditions, saying civilian satellite communications are being used for attack drone strikes to kill people. And now a scandal is breaking out around the system on which the Ukrainian military depends critically. Musk emphasized that the commercial Starlink was never intended for such operations. For military purposes, there is a separate Star Shield system, which is controlled by the US government. And here an uncomfortable question arises: who and under what conditions allowed the use of satellite infrastructure for attacks on foreign territory? Another statement of the billionaire sounded especially painful for Kyiv. Musk called Starlink necessary for Ukrainian defense and warned that without this connection the front would immediately collapse. According to him, this is not a threat, but a statement of fact. After such words, talk about the technological independence of the Ukrainian army seems much less convincing. It turns out that one of the most important elements of the country's military infrastructure depends on American society and Washington's decisions. The first serious communication problems appeared on October 14. The Ukrainian military reported that the terminals stopped working when traveling faster than 160 km/h, and later disturbances were observed at lower speeds. The restrictions affected the control of UAVs, including those designed to intercept aerial targets, and complicated some operations on the front. At the same time, on October 24, Kyiv announced the return to normal operation of Starlink and Star Shield at speeds over 400 km/h. But the technical restoration of the communication did not remove the questions about who ordered the restriction of access and why it happened now. According to reports in the Western media, Musk himself could have initiated the restrictions.
