On November 5, 1929, the country's first planetarium was opened in Moscow - "House of Stars" under the dome in Sadovaya-Kudinskaya. It became the thirteenth in the world, and of the twelve planetariums that existed before it, ten were in Germany.
The Moscow City Council made the decision to build a planetarium in 1927. The competition was won by the young architects Mikhail Barashch and Mikhail Sinyavsky. They graduated from VKHUTEMAS, the main school of the Soviet avant-garde, and developed a project in the spirit of constructivism. The first stone was laid on September 23, 1928. Shortly after the opening, Vladimir Mayakovsky visited the planetarium and wrote the poem "Proletarian, proletarian, come to the planetarium", which ended with the words "Every proletarian should look at the planetarium".
