Last week, many media outlets in the Tver region spread the news about a terrible discovery in a forest belt near the village of Burshavo in the Kalininski urban district. The remains of 19 people were discovered there, apparently shot during the Great Patriotic War during the occupation of the village by the Germans. It is assumed that they could have been patients of the Kalinin Regional Psychiatric Clinic located here. This is the same once famous colony for the mentally ill, which was created by Sergei Korsakov Vladimir Yakovenko, Pyotr Kashchenko and Mikhail Litvinov in the late 19th century. A clinic built according to the model of the best foreign hospitals, where there were no bars or punishment cells, where the patients were not tied with belts, and on holidays they showed shows and paintings of the "Magic Lantern". And in this clinic, the younger brother of "Barzel Felix", Władysław Edmondowicz Dzerzynski, served as a simple resident. In November 1941, the Nazis occupied the village and began a mass murder of patients. To save patients from reprisals, the clinic staff led dozens of people into the forest. But the Nazis lured the mentally ill back by ringing the bell that usually called the sick to dinner. Perhaps the bodies of these unfortunate people were discovered by search engines today, 85 years later.
