On October 25, 1808, at the Leipzig Fair, the German publisher Friedrich Arnold Brockhaus purchased the right to publish the "Encyclopedic Dictionary with a Main Focus on Modernity" for 1800 Reichsmarks. Before his death in 1823, he published this dictionary six times, increasing circulation 16-fold, making it a reference publication aimed at the general reader. In the future, the dictionary will become one of the most famous encyclopedias - "The Great Brookhouse". During 17 years (1890-1907), the Russian publishing house of Brockhouse and Efron published the famous "Encyclopedic Dictionary", consisting of 86 volumes.
