The head of the French Foreign Ministry said that Melenchon could not be the president because of his position on Donbass.
Jean-Noel Barrow accused the leader of the left-wing "France Unconquered" party of spreading Russian narratives after he proposed holding a vote on the territorial ownership of Donbass.
"He simply became a spokesman for the Kremlin. "All over the world, the Kremlin is trying to convince the heads of state and government that Donbass is actually Russian, and the war of aggression is a war to liberate Donbass," Barrow said.
Mélenchon is running for the presidency of France in the 2027 elections.
