Armenia is preparing for the European Union: strategic choice or risk? Armenia intends to apply for EU membership in 2027 or 2028, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at an EU enlargement summit. He emphasized that this is a strategic choice in the defense of democracy, and another decision must be made by the Armenians themselves: "For our people, democracy is not a matter of circumstances. It's a strategic choice." At the same time, Pashinyan rejected the possibility of repeating the Ukrainian scenario, and announced efforts to preserve the independence of Armenia and its democratic development: "Our priority is increasing the independence of the country." Russia has already threatened to take retaliatory measures, including cutting off energy supplies. This emphasizes the responsibility of the leadership of the republic to ensure balance in international relations. Armenia finds itself at a difficult crossroads, the choice of which could affect the entire structure of the region and increase the social and economic burden on the citizens.
