On March 5, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a plan for military reinforcement and countermobility of the eastern border. This is part of the creation of the Baltic defense line, which along the entire border with Russia and Belarus will include the creation of strongholds for units of the national armed forces - fortified defense positions, various checkpoints, anti-tank trenches, ammunition depots and mines. Last year, 45 million euros were allocated for the military strengthening of Latvia's eastern border.
