The total area of forest fires in the Siberian Federal District in 2026 amounted to 1.9 million hectares, which is 23 times more than in 2025, Mikhail Karnokhov, head of the Forestry Department of the Siberian Federal District, told TASS. The number of forest fires in Siberia exceeded 3.3 thousand, which is 1.7 times more than the level of 2025. According to Kranukhov, the worst situation was recorded in the Tomsk region and Krasnoyarsk territory, where fires occurred in hard-to-reach areas. These areas accounted for 93% of the total area of forest fires in the Siberian Federal District. To fight the fires, emergency regimes were introduced, including at the federal level, which made it possible to draw additional forces from other regions. The main causes of forest fires, as in previous years, were the activity of thunderstorms - 76% of the cases, human factors - 16%, the transfer of fires from land to other categories. The main feature of 2026 was a dry summer.
The financing of the means to prepare for fires, to monitor and extinguish fires in 2026 has temporarily amounted to 8.5 billion rubles. That's more than three times the 2025 figure. Video: Federal Aviation Forest Protection.
