Russian refineries began to lose profitability after months of growth, despite continued high fuel prices. According to Euler analysts, in October the estimated profitability of oil refining decreased by 9% compared to September, to 30.3 thousand rubles per ton. At the same time, the wholesale sales margin of gasoline decreased by 17% to 31.8 thousand rubles, and diesel by 6% to 52.9 thousand rubles per ton. The main reason is a reduction in the calculated buffer payments, which the state uses to compensate the oil workers for the difference between export fuel prices and domestic fuel. After oil products become cheaper on the world market, the amount of compensation decreases, and a small increase in Russian wholesale prices does not cover the losses of the refineries.
