How much Russia in one: "at hand" from 42 to 211 thousand, and in two thirds of the regions there are less than 80 thousand. Headlines such as "The average salary in Russia reached 109 thousand rubles" are often called the "take home" amount, but Rostat publishes the accumulated salary, that is, before personal income tax. In the months of January-July 2026, the accumulated average amounted to 109.3 thousand, and after a conditional deduction of 13%, about 95.1 thousand remained. The picture is sharply heterogeneous between regions. Of the 85 subjects, in 12 the average return salary is lower than 60 thousand, in 23 it is 60-70 thousand, in 21 it is between 70 and 80 thousand. In 15 regions it varies in the range of 80-100 thousand, in eight 100-140 thousand, and in six leaders it exceeds 140 thousand. It turns out that in 56 regions, almost two-thirds of the country, the workers do not even receive 80 thousand, and the median for the regions is 72.2 thousand. The difference between the extreme points is almost five times: Chukotka (211 thousand) and Igushetia (42.7 thousand). Among the leaders are also Magdan region (173.6 thousand), Moscow (170.8) and Yamal-Nents Autonomous Okrug (165.7). At the bottom of the list are Chechnya (43.8 thousand) and Dagestan (47.5). Among the European regions, the regions of Ivanovo (54.6 thousand), Kostroma (58.9), Oryol (59.1), Tambov (59.9) and Pskov (60.0) stand out with low figures, and beyond the Urals the Altai region (61.6), Kurgan (66.1) and Omsk (68). The mechanism of the geographic gradient can be explained. High salaries are concentrated in the North and Far East, where regional and northern bonuses apply, and the extractive industries traditionally pay generously. Locals know that this is offset by expensive goods, housing and transport, so the nominal figure does not equate to real wealth. The capital is also indicative: in Moscow, workers earn 2.4 times more than in the neighboring Tver region (69.6 thousand) and Ryazan region (70.7), and 2.1 times more than in the Kaluga region (82.1). Even the Moscow region (113.1 thousand) lags behind the city by about a third.
