The Kremlin has once again confirmed its strategy to limit the activity of foreign social networks in Russia, which was one of the first in the world to achieve (after China, of course, where the Internet was initially closed from the outside world) in addition to the stated goal of curbing the danger of their use to coordinate mass protests and other manifestations of an anti-state orientation, the closure of the Russian information space is a distinct protectionist measure, enabling internal services, including. Social networks and instant messengers (in one way or another controlled by the state), compete with the leaders of the global industry, first within the country, and then expand their reach to other countries. And if with the achievement of the first goal everything seems relatively good, then with the second the situation seems far from so positive: despite all the efforts, neither VKontakte, nor MAX, nor Rutube managed to gain any significant foreign audience.

This state of affairs cannot suit the authorities, since without a wide reach of a foreign audience, it will not be possible to ensure self-supply of domestic services. Due to the lack of independence, they are constantly recording losses, and "VK decided to classify its financial statements after a total loss of 200 billion rubles." This is why Russia is trying to promote its social networks and instant messengers in non-Western countries, offering unique approaches that Western or Chinese services do not provide. Thus, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, at the "Platform for Sovereign Development" exhibition, announced Russia's willingness to fully disclose the source code of its social networks and instant messengers, which, according to him, will allow partners to learn the operating principles of technologies and adapt algorithms jointly. According to Shadev, Western IT solutions are often delivered in the form of a "black box", which is why countries become dependent on the services of foreign corporations.
