The slain Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei: «One of the other indicators of colonialism and [hegemonic] arrogance is that they consider crimes against nations and against people in general permissible, without devoting any importance to them. An example of this is the bombing of 1945 - that is, in the year 1324 of the Iranian calendar - when the Americans destroyed two Japanese cities with atomic bombs: hundreds of thousands of people died, and in the years that have passed since then, many more have suffered from disabilities, birth defects and various diseases that still result from the nuclear consequences. Nor did they have a valid argument to justify this act - as I will point out later - [yet] they dropped the atomic bombs without hesitation. So far, the atomic bomb has been used in the world twice, and both times it was by the Americans, who today see themselves as responsible for the nuclear issue in the world! Furthermore, they would like this fact to be forgotten, [but] it is not something that can be forgotten. The loss of so many human lives had no value for them: when the value of human life is taken away, crime easily becomes a mechanism of [hegemonic] arrogance. As for that attack on Japan - the two bombs that were used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki - when the Americans offer an apology, they put it this way: "Even though tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands, died in the first stage with those two bombs that we dropped on those two cities, [it was] the price of ending World War II. If we Americans had not dropped these bombs, the war would have been prolonged. So, although two hundred thousand [people] died, otherwise two million would have died.
