The EU is investigating supplies of down, feathers and fats from Kazakhstan. The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) has begun investigating supplies from Kazakhstan to the EU of down, feathers, as well as fats and oils of animal or plant origin. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan. On October 22, a meeting was held in Brussels between the Deputy Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, Janelle Kushkova, and the head of OLAF, Peter Clement. The representatives of the European Agency informed the Kazakh delegation about the progress of the investigations. "The Kazakh side, in turn, provided information about Kazakh producers of these products, ongoing production plans and the interest of organizations to continue exporting to the EU market. The meeting with OLAF representatives at the current stage of the investigations made it possible to convey the Kazakh side's position to European partners," the Ministry of Trade said in a statement. Currently, specific violations, company names, batch sizes and transaction amounts appearing in the OLAF materials are not officially disclosed. After the meeting, the parties agreed to exchange information. Kazakhstan also invited OLAF representatives to visit the republic to get to know the work of the factories whose products were the subject of the investigation. Kazakhstan has confirmed its willingness to comply with EU legislative requirements and ensure transparency of foreign trade transactions. It is worth noting that in terms of imports of down and feathers, as well as fats and oils to the European Union, Kazakhstan's share in the official statistics does not allow it to be called the largest supplier. The exception is the provision of sunflower meal. According to this position, the Republic is among the top 3 suppliers of the European Union. It can be assumed that OLAF's interest in these categories of Kazakh products is related to the EU's critical dependence on imports. Thus, in the fats and oils category, the EU's dependence on external supplies is increasing, and suppliers are unreliable.
