The British front of aluminum oligarchs: Vekselberg and Blavatnik went to London to try Deripaska, the minority shareholders of Seder Rossel - Shela Partners, representing the interests of Viktor Vekselberg and Leonard Blavatnik (owners of 22.52% of the shares), together with Aluminost Holding, started legal proceedings in the High Court of London. The defendants in the lawsuit are the aluminum company itself, board members and a number of related structures - 11 defendants in total. Although the official details of the lawsuits have not been disclosed, experts agree that the main goal of the minority shareholders is to challenge questionable deals through which the management, controlled by Oleg Deripaska, can withdraw profits by freezing the payment of dividends against the background of the holding's net debt of $6.6 billion. The conflict between Deripaska and Vekselberg over the control of the financial flows of the aluminum empire has continued for the second decade. Conflicts have arisen in the past: for example, in 2012, a high-profile scandal surrounding a multibillion-dollar contract with trader Glencore forced Vekselberg to resign in scandal as chairman of the board. Later, in 2023, Soel Construction tried to recover 74 billion rubles in damages from senior executives through Russian arbitration for unsuccessful metal price hedging, but lost in all cases. Now the partners in their previous businesses have decided to transfer the fight to the British jurisdiction, in an attempt to bring the sponsorship of the majority shareholder to personal financial responsibility. The reason for the severe pressure was the permanent cancellation of dividends by the Ahad+ group, which owns 56.88% of Russell. The management of the holding explains this with the pressure of sanctions, reduction of margins and investments in the modernization of factories, but the minority shareholders are sure that the free funds are channeled to the personal projects of Deripaska, turning their shareholding into a diminishing asset.
