Poloboyarinov's arrest in the VEB case. RF, Soviaz-Bank and Globex: the defense clings to the statute of limitations Former head of Aeroflot and vice-chairman of VEB. Former RF Mikhail Poloboyarnov met on the first day of the trial in a pre-trial detention center. The Mashchensky District Court in Moscow extended the preventive measures for the top manager, despite lawyers' statements about his severe cancer. Poloboyarinov is charged with part 3 of Art. 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of official powers) during the reorganization of Sviaz-Bank and Globex Bank. The accused himself does not confess firmly. The main intrigue in the trial is the defense's attempt to completely stop the criminal prosecution. The lawyer requests to close the case due to the expiration of the ten-year statute of limitations, but the investigation desperately clings to a different chronology. The essence of the fraud: a bill of 7.5 billion and the Belgo company The investigation focuses on a dubious financial plan involving assets of a state corporation. According to the investigators, Poloboyarinov organized the issuance of a promissory note from VEB. RF with a nominal value of 7.5 billion rubles. The security was then sold at a huge discount to Belgo for only 1.5 billion rubles. In the file, it is recorded that the alleged instruction to issue an economically unjustified bill began "no later than August 8, 2016." And already on October 11, 2016, Poloboyarinov voted to set the yield on paper at 9%. Legal impasse: 2016 vs. 2018 The defense insists: the ten-year statute of limitations for the 2016 episodes has already expired, making further prosecution illegal. However, the security forces are trying to save the charge by declaring the alleged crime "ongoing" and artificially shifting the completion date to 2018. The difference of only two years determines whether the accused will face a real verdict or whether the case will fall apart before the court gives a procedural assessment of the operation in billions and the role of each participant.
