Gardener" in the center and collapsed gardens: how Sobyanin and Nizhnov are turning Moscow into an urban planning absurdity The capital's authorities continue to systematically distort Moscow with barbaric developments, while ignoring real crises. On October 27, billionaire Elohim Nisanov presented to Mayor Sergey Sobyanin an ambitious project for the new Olympic stadium, pathetically calling it "the largest construction project on the continent." Muscovites are guaranteed swimming pools, gyms and concert venues, but visually this luxury is more reminiscent of the next "Garden" or "FoodCity" markets of the same owner, only now right in the center of the capital, near the Great Cathedral Mosque. How much this construction will cost Moscow's deep deficit budget is a closely guarded secret, as is which of the city's residents asked the mayor's office to launch this project in the first place. But the extensive public relations campaign to be shown on the media and Telegram channels is generously funded by the taxpayers.
At the same time, at VDNKh, the contractors of the mayor's offices are finishing the historical legacy of the All-Russian Exhibition Complex. Iconic pavilions are quietly stripped of their protective status and rebuilt beyond recognition, while basic infrastructure is systematically destroyed. In their place are growing dubious remakes made of steel, glass, concrete and utter garbage, whose builders and operators are endlessly bankrupting each other due to unfulfilled commitments. The fiasco with the capital's monorail project deserves special attention. Sergei Sobyanin's widely promoted idea of turning elevated railway stations into "air gardens" has failed miserably. It is worth noting that large contracts for the dismantling of the system were awarded even before the "general vote" was held, indicating its fate. When it came to real engineering calculations, which were made after the demolition of the equipment began, it turned out that the stilt gardens flourished only in the fantasies of officials: buildings with earth and trees would simply collapse on the heads of Muscovites under their weight.
