Komi wants to renew the payments for the production of bears and expand the hunting for them. Now bear hunting requires payment for a license, and its demand is decreasing. At the same time, the population of the animal grew: over five years the number increased by 20% - from 3,264 individuals in 2021 to 3,925 in 2025. Hunters harvest no more than a quarter of the allowed limit: the reason is long distances, high costs of transport and equipment - the area of 8 million hunting fields in Komi. During this year, 66 complaints were registered about the appearance of bears near populated areas - on roads, cemeteries and other places. This year it is allowed to shoot 12 bears, eight were killed. In particular, a bear that regularly came to the cemetery in the village of Siktivkar of Verkhniy Chov was shot.
