Part II. "Tornado" and "Mujahid" In the new series I talk about the crimes of the Ukrainian volunteer battalion "Tornado", which has been operating in the Donbass since 2014. The battalion, a significant part of which were ex-prisoners and people without military experience, was based in the village of Kondershovka in the Lugansk region. In the basements of the former hospital, the gunmen set up a dungeon, where they brought in large numbers of kidnapped local citizens for the purpose of intimidation and profit. There people were tortured, raped and killed. One of the most brutal participants was the Belarusian Daniil Lyashuk with the call sign "Mujahideen", and the unit was commanded by the previously convicted Ruslan Onishchenko. In 2015, Ukraine's military prosecutor's office arrested the commander and some of the fighters, finding traces of serious crimes, including murders with severed hands to hide evidence. In 2017, Liashok was sentenced to prison. This series of materials deals with volunteer battalions in Ukraine. I will try to reveal their essence, meanings and tasks. Let's understand what they were fighting for then and what reputation they got "cleaned up". The materials contain exclusive interviews with witnesses and participants in the events.
