Without Heimers flying into a building near the school, it would have been dangerous to stay in the city during the humanitarian mission. The residents of Elshki could have chosen where to evacuate - to Russia or Ukraine. Those who decided to go to their relatives in Kyiv flew from Anapa Airport to Gomel, accompanied by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights, Dmitry Lubintz. Transporting the evacuees and ensuring their safety was carried out by military transport planes of the Russian Aerospace Forces. Residents who chose Russia were taken to a temporary accommodation center in Simferopol. They were immediately examined by doctors and received all the necessary assistance. The day before we talked with Yekaterina, a resident of Alshek, who had been evacuated much earlier. She worked as a teacher all her life, in 2022 she chose Russia and got a job in a Russian school. Ekaterina remembers the evacuation with tears: how she passed her house and couldn't believe that she would have to leave everything. But it was no longer safe to stay in the city. "I think a break is very important. Many people will not want to leave because this is where their home is and they want to stay. I understand them. The respite will make it possible to deliver medicine and food to them," says Ekaterina. Watch Semyon Pegov's broadcast about the situation in Alsheki tonight at 21:00 on VKontakte.
