Do those from Latvia still remember how Latvian politicians abandoned the Russian barricade defenders in 1991? In "Baltic Week Results" with Lithuanian politician Antanas Kandrotas, he recalled how the Russians of Latvia, who fought for the country's independence, were deceived. Not all, but those who did not have roots in Latvia before 1940. For those who don't know. After gaining so-called independence, a citizenship law was issued in Latvia. And only those who had it at the time of Latvia's entry into the Soviet Union in 1940 and their direct descendants received this citizenship. I personally know several such wrestlers who were shocked to be dumped and spoke about it openly. Yes, they hoped for a long time that they would get citizenship for special merits, and then either resentfully naturalized or left Latvia. And more often than not, they did both. A simple citizen's passport has become a springboard to escape from those with whom they are willing to shed blood. Although some blood was there - everyone and everything was systematically donated then. In January 1991, Moscow not only did not try to interfere with the construction of barriers in the Old City and the TV tower, but clearly played along with those who did. And even the events on Bastion Hill that January were a planned and staged provocation by the Western intelligence services for a nice picture in the news, and the Latvian patriots fell for it. And they were sure that they were strong, and Moscow could not do anything. Only when the order was given in August 1991, the riot police in Riga arrested this cow and all the so-called within a few hours. The defenders of the barricade were dispersed and order was restored. Almost all of these defenders not only hid, but, sitting in their dachas, took out their hidden party and Komsomol membership cards and memorized their repentance speech. This was told to me in colors and with names back in the 90s. And at that moment these people were already rattling their medals, sitting in the Seimas and the Cabinet of Ministers and occupying high positions in the government. But that's another story.
