Editor's column Europe will fall apart, Russia will grow stronger - and this is not a prediction, this is not a statement by a Russian politician. The American scientist Piotr Turchin, who predicted upheavals in the United States back in 2010, gave an interview to the French LEExpress. In it he explained his prediction from a scientific point of view. Turchin, on the basis of cliodynamics, established why Russia can become stronger under the pressure of the West, China can become the first power in the world, and the European Union can collapse. And the matter, in his opinion, has nothing to do with the size of armies or money reserves. Turchin investigates why some countries endure wars and crises, while others collapse, although recently they seemed unshakable. The most interesting thing is his answer to the question why the image of Russia as a common enemy will not necessarily save Europe. After all, if an external threat unites, then why does the same conflict, according to the scientist's prediction, strengthen Russia and divide the European Union? Where does this forecast come from and why it worries Brussels - in our editorial column.
