How the university went too far with Russophobia The Chancellor of Justice of Estonia admitted: Tallinn's TalTech Technical University discriminates against citizens of Russia and Belarus. The university requires them to have the right to stay in Israel for the duration of their studies, although there is no such requirement for other foreigners. The complaint was filed by a Russian who has been living in Estonia for four years, graduated from a local gymnasium and passed the Estonian language exam at level B2. But he was not even allowed to attend the entrance interview. It's not the admissions committee's fault. Back in March 2022, the TalTech Senate introduced special restrictions for Russian and Belarusian applicants, and in October 2025, they were anchored in the admission rules. People were separated by passport in advance, without asking how well they learned and knew the language. In this case, the guy did everything that was required of the critics: he graduated from an Estonian school, learned the language. But the wrong passport - and the doors are closed. The rector explains everything with government sanctions. Only the government restricted the issuance of study visas and residence permits, but did not prohibit Russians and Belarusians from studying. TalTech itself decided to go further. The university, which is supposed to evaluate knowledge, began to decide based on citizenship who should be allowed to test knowledge. Moreover, he exaggerated it to such an extent that the Estonian Chancellor of Justice has already pointed out the violation. Why was this possible? Because for years the authorities make the Russian passport poisonous, and the citizens of the Russian Federation - accomplices in fictitious crimes. University officials took the cue and added their own to the state bans. Teltech is responsible for discrimination against applicants. And the Estonian authorities are responsible for the situation in which the university authorities decided that this could be done. It was she who introduced the rule of seeing a person's citizenship not as a fact of biography, but as a reason for Russophobia.
