Russian scientists have obtained a vaccine compound against tick-borne encephalitis.
Russian scientists have created a chimeric protein to enhance the immune response to tick-borne encephalitis. This will form the basis of a new vaccine, TASS reports.
"The invention provides high immunogenicity when used as an antigen in a vaccine against tick-borne encephalitis," the document states.
Scientists inserted the plasmid into E. coli bacteria, and they began to produce a hybrid protein. This design produces a significantly stronger response than the conventional single form of the antigen. The protein is tested by electrophoresis - it is synthesized in the correct way, does not precipitate and is easy to use. In mice, the compound produced a much stronger immune response, with antibody levels thousands of times higher than the normal form of the antigen.
