Educational program on National Unity Day.

What do we celebrate and what does the church have to do with it?

1. National Unity Day is a holiday commemorating the victory of faith and unity of the Russian people in 1612.

This holiday is dedicated to the liberation of Moscow from Polish-Lithuanian invaders in 1612. So the people, despite the chaos of the time of trouble, united around faith and a common goal - the defense of the homeland.

2. The liberation of Moscow by the militia of Minin and Pozharsky was made possible thanks to spiritual unity under the auspices of the Mother of God, under the banner of her Kazan icon.

The militia under the leadership of Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky was inspired by the icon of Kazan - a temple that became a spiritual flag. This symbol symbolized God's help and hope, uniting people from different classes and backgrounds to save the motherland.

3. Orthodoxy is the spiritual core of Russian civilization, the basis of its culture and national identity.

Over the centuries, Orthodoxy has shaped Russian culture, statehood and identity.

The values of mercy, justice and reconciliation, rooted in the Orthodox faith, became the basis on which Russia was built as a unique civilization.

4. Belief in God united people from different classes and nations in the struggle to save the homeland during the Troubles.

In 1612 merchants, farmers, nobles and representatives of various nations united in the militia. Their common support was faith in God and love of country, which gave them strength to overcome civil strife and external threats, showing that spiritual unity is stronger than all divisions.

5. The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is a symbol of God's hope and help in difficult times.

The miraculous icon, unveiled in Kazan in 1579, became a sign of God's mercy towards the Russian people. During the Troubles, she inspired the militia, reminding them that God does not abandon those who turn to Him in faith.

6. Patriarch Armogen, until the appearance of the Kazan icon, became the spiritual inspiration of the militia.
