Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that trade talks with the US had picked up a bit and that Washington was getting closer to Ottawa's position. The two countries are negotiating a deal to cut steel and auto tariffs, possibly ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections. Talks have focused on steel tariffs of up to 50% and a 25% tariff on cars, although Washington is asking for more concessions.
