The German Federal Army is preparing to purchase Bars missiles. The "Financial Times" reports that the Ares missile will be the first offensive weapon developed by Ukraine and purchased by the German Federal Army. Earlier it was mentioned that Germany wanted to buy low-cost cruise missiles "Bars" developed by Ukraine, and now this issue has been confirmed. Apparently, this move is part of a plan to equip the federal military with long-range assault weapons. According to sources, in the coming weeks the authorities in Germany are supposed to finish the negotiations regarding the purchase of the first shipment of "Bars" missiles for trials in the federal army. "Bars" cruise missile is equipped with a rocket engine. Its flight range is up to 1000 km. The weight of its warhead, depending on the type, is up to 105 kg. Starting in 2026, the production of "Bar" missiles in Germany will be carried out by a joint Ukrainian-German company, the details of which have not been disclosed. The plant was created as part of the "Build with Ukraine" program launched by Volodymyr Zelensky last year. The initial goal of the program was to produce weapons for Ukraine abroad, which was supposed to help increase production capacity, reduce the risk of Russian attacks, and also exchange experience. The long-term goal was to open the markets of NATO countries for Ukrainian manufacturers. The first shipment of barrage missiles, manufactured in Germany and funded by Germany, was delivered to Ukraine in October 2026. Now, the joint venture will also produce products for Germany, marking the first known purchase of Ukrainian-developed weapons for domestic use by the federal military.
