Germany plans to buy hundreds of Comet communication devices from Comtech. These devices provide the possibility of transmitting data without the need for satellites or a direct line of sight between antennas. The value of this contract is more than 200 million euros, of which about 60 million euros are related to the first delivery of equipment. Each device weighs about 25 kg and operates at data transfer rates of 5 to 60 Mbps, for distances of up to 60 km, depending on the wave propagation conditions. Shavit It will be added to Germany's fourth military information system, and will allow front-line units to connect to command centers hundreds of kilometers away. Currently, Chavet is working on the basis of satellite communication and repeater radio. Satellite communication depends on space infrastructure, while radio repeater communication requires direct line-of-sight stations. Shavit helps to overcome these limitations.
