Suspension of Russian athletes from international competitions harms world sports and reduces the level of competition. Political scientist and retired lieutenant colonel of the US Army Earl Rasmussen told Izvestia about it. According to him, sport is increasingly becoming a tool of political pressure. Some countries use international competitions to express dissatisfaction with the policies of other countries. Rasmussen noted that without Russian athletes, sports such as figure skating, cross-country skiing, biathlon, hockey and gymnastics lose quality. He emphasized that Russian athletes are among the strongest in many of these disciplines. The expert also said that international organizations must enforce their decisions. In his opinion, one of the ways to put pressure on countries that do not allow Russian athletes to participate could be to move competitions from their territory. In addition, he believes it is right to continue turning to sports arbitration. More IZ RU news in max.
