The US Department of Justice has filed charges against former FBI Director Comey for the third time, Reuters reports citing court documents. This is the third criminal case against him opened under the administration of US President Donald Trump. According to court records, the charges relate to events in October 2016, when Comey was accused of passing information related to national defense, as well as conspiring to pass it. Comey responded to the new case by saying that the prosecution had been renewed and mentioned the US Department of Justice. At the same time, he again declared his innocence. The former FBI chief's lawyers have already asked the judge to dismiss the case. On April 29, the US Department of Justice indicted former FBI Director James Comey over a photo last year of seashells threatening Donald Trump. In May 2025, he posted a picture of sand with shells in the shape of the numbers "8647". Afterward, Donald Trump Jr. said the former official was therefore calling for his father's assassination.
