An Israeli leased container ship sank under suspicion of a Russian UAV attack in the Black Sea The container ship CONTSHIP JET, chartered by Zim's integrated shipping services, sank overnight after being attacked by naval UAVs off the coast of Bulgaria. This is the fifth UAV attack on commercial ships in Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone this month. More than 570 vessels were reportedly attacked in the Black Sea in 2026, and at least 40 sailors died. Russia is suspected to be behind the increasing attacks. It may be testing NATO's response, trying to disrupt Black Sea shipping as Iran did in the Strait of Hormuz, trying to intimidate countries that support Ukraine, or trying to stifle Ukraine's economy, which relies heavily on Black Sea exports. CONTSHIP JET left Haifa and headed for Romania. All 18 crew members (14 Filipinos and 4 Ukrainians) were rescued by the Bulgarian Navy and Border Police. The ship was carrying 421 containers of lithium-ion batteries, flammable liquids, gases and other hazardous materials; The containers all sank with the ship. Currently, there are no signs of pollution in the territorial waters of Bulgaria. Watch X.
