Official results of the elections in Israel The ruling bloc: 53 mandates The opposition bloc: 48 mandates Arab parties: 19 mandates What comes next The post-election process in Israel is complex. After the swearing in of the new Knesset, President Herzog has the next move: he will choose whether Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu or the head of the opposition bloc Gadi Eisenkot will have the first opportunity to try to form a governing coalition of 61+ mandates. Neither the Netanyahu bloc nor the Eisenkot bloc currently has a clear path to the 61 seats needed for a parliamentary majority. If the first bloc fails to form a coalition of 61+, the second bloc will have a chance. If neither party is successful, there will be a 21-day period during which 61 Knesset members can propose another candidate, who will then have 14 days to form a government of 61+ members. A minority government (a governing coalition with less than 61 seats) can be formed even if smaller parties agree to avoid the government. If no government is formed, Israel will go to another round of elections, and Prime Minister Netanyahu will remain in the position of interim prime minister until a new government is formed. Watch X.
