Sheikh Hasina says she does not need the blessing of foreign powers to return to Bangladesh "I value friendship and cooperation with all nations. This has always been our (Bangladesh) foreign policy. But I don't need the blessing of a foreign power to return to my country." Asked whether she expected the United States and India to pressure Bangladesh to ensure her safe return, Hasina said: "If death is my destiny, I prefer to die on my own land, among my own people. So, I will go back to Bangladesh. This decision has not changed." She reiterated that she intends to return from exile in India by December, despite the possibility of arrest or death.
