Postponing the implementation of EU environmental regulations, under the pressure of the war against Iran.
Following the disruption in the global energy market caused by the war against Iran, the Council of the European Union agreed to a one-year postponement of methane emission monitoring and reporting requirements for oil, gas and coal importers from January 2027 to January 2028.
🔹 The purpose of this action is to prevent additional pressure on the security of the energy supply of the member states. The final agreement requires negotiations with the European Parliament; A body that previously supported longer delays of some demands.
