The world has not achieved the goal of the Paris Agreement.
According to the United Nations Environment Program's "Energy Gap 2026" report, the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels is unattainable. According to this report, China and the US are the largest emitters of greenhouse gases in the world, and on the other hand, Iran's emissions have increased by about 19 million tons in 2025. See the reason in this report.
This report shows that although since the approval of the Paris Agreement in 2015, global renewable electricity capacity has grown three times faster than projected, not enough progress has been made on fossil fuels and deforestation.
However, according to the UN Secretary General, this does not mean surrender.
Now, with new targets, governments must prevent going above 2°C and then try to reduce and return to the 1.5°C target by the end of the century.
