Tom Bark, US ambassador to Turkey and Washington's special envoy to Syria and Iraq, announced in unusual language at the "World Security Forum" meeting in Doha that Washington no longer wants to be the "owner" or "controller" of the Middle East, but has no intention of leaving the region. He also did not see Iran as a "Yemeni army" and saw that the solution to the crisis was a ceasefire, reducing the pressure on the Iranian people and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Positions that put him at odds with the official policy of the Trump administration.
