Protecting biodiversity can be one of the most important areas of peace diplomacy. The international community should accept that countries under sanctions or under military aggression should not pay the environmental costs of war and sanctions alone. Condemning the devastating effects of aggressive wars on nature, the President of the Islamic Republic called it "ecological murder or environmental genocide" and called on the international community to create effective, transparent and applicable mechanisms to protect natural heritage and biodiversity during war.
