Bakai: We support holding a joint meeting of the Persian Gulf countries with the presence of Iran and Iraq

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a question about the upcoming visit of the Prime Minister of Iraq to Saudi Arabia and the effect of the expansion of relations between Baghdad and Riyadh on the reduction of regional tensions, said:

We have always supported the strengthening of interaction and cooperation between the countries of the region. If you remember, a long time ago we even raised the proposal to hold a joint meeting of the Persian Gulf countries in the presence of Iran and Iraq, which I think was held a year or two ago.

Some time ago we also proposed to hold a similar meeting and this meeting was supposed to be held in Salalah, Oman, but others did not agree to it.

What I want to say is that we definitely support the strengthening of relations between the countries of the region. Strengthening relations and trust between the countries of the region is the basis and necessary for the creation of a safe region, without the destructive intervention of foreign parties.
