Five presidents, one concern; The fate of the Caspian Sea depends on joint action

Khosrow Hosseini - IRNA reporter The agreement of the five countries of the Caspian coast to establish a joint committee to investigate the reasons for the withdrawal of water in the sea was the most important achievement of the Turkmenistan environmental summit, an agreement that is now testing the degree of adherence of regional countries to practical cooperation to save the Caspian Sea. Masoud Al-Madjian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasized in his speech on the development and implementation of a long-term regional plan to deal with the drop in the Caspian water level and said that none of the coastal countries alone is capable of solving this crisis. Pazkhian referred to climate change, an increase in air and water temperature, oil and industrial pollution and the destruction of natural habitats as serious threats to the Caspian Sea and emphasized that damage to any part of this ecosystem spreads to other parts as well.
