Iraqi: Peace, security, environment, health and climate change are not separate issues

The foreign minister at the international conference "Ecocide; a silent war crime" said:

๐Ÿ”น When a military ground attack causes permanent soil pollution, destruction of water sources, destruction of forests, air and sea pollution and the creation of hazardous materials and remnants of war, its effects can last far beyond the time and place of the ground attack. A child living today in a war-torn area may pay the environmental price of a war in which he had no role decades later.

๐Ÿ”น From the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran, international law should not be indifferent to the destruction of the environment and the violation of basic human rights in conditions of war. The effective application of the principles of international humanitarian law, including the principle of distinction and the principle of proportionality, must be taken into account, along with the direct, indirect and long-term effects of military operations on the environment.
