Mustafa Afzalzade - IRNA reporter

The Trump administration's decision to tighten sanctions against the International Criminal Court was opposed by a number of America's allies. European countries and Canada warned that these actions could disrupt the court's activities; While some European governments are considering legal solutions to deal with the effects of Washington's extraterritorial sanctions.

The pressure on the court is part of the Trump administration's broader policy toward multilateral institutions. The White House announced in an official statement on January 7, 2026 that the President ordered the withdrawal of the United States from 66 international organizations, including 35 organizations outside the United Nations and 31 organizations affiliated with this organization.
