Dr. Pzhashkian at an extraordinary meeting of the leaders of the Caspian Sea region:

Today, more than ever, we need environmental diplomacy/the Caspian Sea can be a successful example of cooperation between countries for the common good/none of the coastal countries can save the Caspian Sea alone/Iran's proposal is to formulate a long-term regional plan to deal with reducing the water level of the Caspian Sea within the framework of the Tehran Treaty.

Stating that the Caspian Sea is an interconnected ecosystem and any damage to a part of it will sooner or later reveal its effects in the entire water area, the President said: Above all, the protection of the Caspian Sea requires a common political will, continuous cooperation and coordinated action of all the coastal countries. Dr. Masoud Pazhkian, president of Salmi Iran, in his speech at the extraordinary meeting of the leaders of the Caspian Basin, emphasized that in today's world, which is faced with many crises, geopolitical competitions, wars, unilateral sanctions and multilateral weakening, the environmental cooperation between the countries and between the important countries can be one of the important areas of building trust and the countries. The coastal countries should decide the fate of the Caspian Sea by relying on their scientific, technical, financial and human capabilities within the framework of regional cooperation and with full respect for national sovereignty and each other's legitimate interests. Following the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Caspian Marine Environment, which was signed by the five coastal countries in 2003, and recently on the 20th anniversary of its implementation, with the good and active participation of all the coastal countries, the President held the seventh meeting of its members in Tehran as the most important binding regional framework for the protection of the environment and the Caspian Convention, together with the Caspian Convention. Forms a framework for successful and comprehensive cooperation of the coastal states in various fields, starting with cooperation in dealing with oil pollution and pollution caused by land-based activities. From the protection of biodiversity and the assessment of transboundary environmental impacts, we have been given climate change and the reduction of Caspian water levels.

Dr. Pzheshkian stated that none of the coastal countries can save the Caspian Sea alone. This sea water and its pollution; Climate change in the region and the effects of water level reduction do not recognize any political boundaries, he stressed: therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran, while welcoming the decision of this summit to establish a high-level committee consisting of the vice presidents of the coastal countries, proposes to develop a long-term regional plan to deal with the Caspian water level reduction within the framework of the implemented Caspian Water Treaty.
