Before the cinema today was limited to equipped cinemas and multi-screen complexes, watching a movie in some cities of Khuzestan had a different experience, white curtains in the open air, cameras in a small room and viewers who spent the warm southern nights in the summer areas of the cinema.

Abadan was one of the most important centers for the formation of cinema culture in Khuzestan, and the expansion of the oil industry and the creation of a set of welfare and cultural facilities for the oil company's employees, caused cinema to find a special place in the urban life of this region, along with clubs, sports centers and other leisure facilities.

Among the old examples, the "Shirin" cinema has a special place. Local historical sources mentioned the construction of this cinema in 1310 by an Indian businessman. According to the same sources, the original building of the cinema had 2 covered floors and a summer theater and it was expanded after World War II.
