Asia News Network: The President of the United States will host his Chinese counterpart at the White House this week, while the two top officials seek stability in relations that are under pressure from problems ranging from trade to the Taiwan issue, an invasion of Iranian territory and global concerns about artificial intelligence.

Markets will await signs of an extension of the ceasefire on tariffs that was announced after the Trump-Xi summit in South Korea last October and is set to be violated on November 10. The agreement halted a trade war in which the world's two largest economies threatened global supply chains with retaliatory tariffs of up to 100 percent.
