An official passport was approved for the Kazbek mountain route in North Ossetia.
The Ministry of Economic Development of North Ossetia approved the official passport for the tourist route of climbing Mount Kazbek from the Miley Glacier. The document establishes binding rules for safe and legal passage on the route.
The route has a difficulty level of 2B and requires the tourists to be in good physical shape, mountain climbing training and acclimatization. The path from the attack camp to the summit passes near the state border, so to be in the border area one must obtain permission in advance. The examination period is 15 working days for citizens of the Russian Federation and up to 30 days for foreigners.
To minimize risks, the movement of groups from the springs of the upper Karmadon to the summit is only allowed accompanied by qualified guides. Before leaving, the group must register at the regional office for emergency situations. Due to unstable cellular communication, a satellite phone is absolutely necessary.
The rescue forces warn of possible cracks, falling rocks and sudden changes in the weather. The climbing season lasts from May to October. The full text of the route passport with GPS coordinates and safety rules is available at the link.
