The French government requires telecom operators to prepare for restrictions on social media.

French Prime Minister Sebastien LeCorneau has asked the managers of the four major operators to be ready to cut off access to TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and X within hours in the event of urban violence. He announced that the purpose of this action is to prevent the role of social networks in organizing robberies, exchange of words regarding the goals and position of the police forces.

🔹 The operators regarded the implementation of this program as very difficult from a technical and legal point of view. They said they could not limit the outage to only mobile phones and specific regions and warned that it could easily be bypassed using a VPN.
