Joint statement by Iran and eleven countries on the prohibition of attacks on nuclear facilities.
The Islamic Republic of Iran along with Russia, China, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cuba, Eritrea, Nicaragua, Niger, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Zimbabwe read a joint statement on the prohibition of all forms of ground attacks and the threat of ground attack against nuclear facilities under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency during the 80th ambush session of the First General Committee of the United Nations.
The countries supporting this declaration emphasized the inalienable and non-discriminatory right of all countries to develop and use peaceful nuclear energy and called a ground attack or the threat of a ground attack against nuclear facilities a violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law and the laws of the Agency. At the end of this statement, all member states of the United Nations are asked to unite by clearly and decisively opposing any ground attack or threat of a ground attack against nuclear facilities, to strengthen Yemen and nuclear security, as well as to support the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
