A strange coronal hole has appeared on the Sun - it has been nicknamed "Voluchkova" on the Internet. The Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that one of this year's largest coronal holes has formed on the Sun. Its width is estimated at one million km. She's shaped like a ballerina, so social media users have already started calling her "Voluchkova" or "Voluchkova splits." Visually, the hole looks like a bottomless pit, but this is an illusion, the researchers promise: in fact, we are talking about a very strong decrease in temperature and plasma density over huge areas in the solar atmosphere, which is why these areas simply stop shining. Such areas do not hold plasma well, and it escapes en masse into space at speeds of hundreds and thousands of kilometers per second. If the Earth is caught in such a flow, magnetic storms are possible. Magnetic storms are expected in Irkutsk in the first half of Saturday. The situation will stabilize around November 13-14.
