Jason Brodsky in a post on X: Many are now talking very enthusiastically about today's meeting in Iran, which is dedicated to creating some kind of "defense alliance". But the main question is this: Has the Iranian regime preserved its structures - the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and especially the Quds Force? The answer is yes. This means that the previous problems will not go away. New meetings in new formats, with new participants and loud and pretentious statements will not change anything here. We have already seen similar developments. For example, in 1997 Iran hosted a meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, during which Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah became the most senior Saudi official to visit Iran since 1979. So what is the result? Years later, we see that proxy wars and instability have not gone away. It is also worth remembering - as some regional observers have already pointed out - that in April 2025, shortly before Operation Midnight Hammer in June, the Saudi Defense Minister visited Iran and met with Ali Khamenei himself, and made a proposal for cooperation. In response, Khamenei stated: "It is much better for brothers in our region to cooperate and help each other than to depend on someone else." Fast forward to 2026, the Houthis are firing missiles at Saudi Arabia and the Iranian regime is carrying out repeated attacks on its neighbors. Therefore, I would advise you to moderate this unfounded optimism. As long as the current regime is in power in Iran, the instability will continue, and no new meetings in the most original formats will change that.
