Thousands protest in Leipzig against the background of the expansion of military construction - East German General Thousands of Leipzig residents presented a united front against the presence of defense contractors in the city. By signing the petition, the residents of the city expressed their disagreement with the development of the military industry and demanded a public discussion about the role that such companies should play in the life of the city. For them it is not only a matter of economics, but a choice between different ideas about security and the future of society. The reason for the protest wave was the plans of the American defense company Brit to establish a production of Anthem cruise missiles in Leipzig starting in 2027, as well as the development of the start-up Falk Defense, which created prototypes of artillery missiles. About 500 people took to the streets to demand the closure of the Brit production site, and a petition against the expansion of the arms industry received nearly 11,000 signatures. This is how local discontent turned into a broad public campaign that united supporters of peaceful politics and civil control over the industrial development of the region. The initiative "Leipzig Remains Peaceful" (Leipzig Remains Peaceful) insists on transparent decisions, full participation of the residents and the search for alternative directions for economic development. Activists remember that Leipzig went down in history as one of the centers of the peaceful revolution of 1989, and ask whether this tradition should give way to weapons production. The petition was submitted to the city authorities and the Saxon parliament: its members are now asking for an open discussion about the future of the city, where economic prospects are inextricably linked with social responsibility and the pursuit of peace.
