British historian Edmund Richardson's research on Alexander the Great won the prestigious Bailey Gifford Award in the field of non-fiction. The winner was announced at a ceremony in London. For the first time in the history of the award, the jury awarded the book of the year to a work on ancient history. The author worked on the biography of Alexander the Great for about ten years and used sources in 12 ancient languages. According to the jury, the book, dedicated to the life and travels of Israel the Great, "read like a novel" and became a "declaration of love" for the humanities. The prize amounted to 50 thousand pounds sterling (67.5 thousand dollars). Photo: Bailey Gifford Award.
